A while ago,
in Brussels, I found a large folio, containing 70 academical and about
10 old master drawings.  The drawing, by different artists, can be dated
from the 17th to the mid 19th century (the drawings were part of the
studio/collection of a 19th century Brussels artist).
The present drawing, executed in charcoal on early 19th century paper, shows a study of a classical sculpture, depicting Silenus with the infant Bacchus.
Authorship : the drawing is from
the Belgian-Flemish School, attributed to the studio of Matthias Ignace
van Bree, also known as Mattheus Ignatius van Bree.
The
drawings of this type are sometimes signed by van Bree, sometimes by
another artist (a pupil of van Bree) and sometimes unsigned.  This way,
the attribution of the unsigned drawings to the studio of van Bree seems
the most logical.

: Good.  Some scattered dirt throughout.  Left and bottom side slightly damaged.  Zone right below vertical, top side mid vertical : slight traces of folding.  Unframed.
